FAQ

1. What is Threshold Reiki?
Richard Rivard, a Vancouver Reiki Master, studied with eminent Japanese Reiki senseis (teachers) and then developed his own variation of Reiki training. It’s based on Usui Reiki Ryoho but incorporates more traditional Japanese Reiki teachings and techniques than most western versions of Reiki training. More details on Threshold Reiki can be found at www.threshold.ca. As you will see on Rick’s web site, he also offers training in two modern Japanese versions of Reiki.

2. What is IET?
Integrated Energy Therapy® is a fast, effective, safe, and painless energy healing modality that removes blocks stored in your body. It deals with the root of a problem which can manifest in physical or psychological symptoms. IET targets the source of many chronic physical or emotional problems, and removes barriers to achieving your life’s purpose.

In Integrated Energy Therapy® we believe that our life is not completely healed until we are living our dreams in life. Therefore, we have developed a progressive focus for our classes that starts with clearing the pain and helping us “survive life”, and progresses to finding and living our soul’s mission so that we can “thrive in life”.

3. What are energy blocks?
Quite simply, energy blocks are stored emotions. The grief you never released, the fear you held onto after a terrifying incident, the anger you suppressed, the pain from relationships that broke your heart—all these are still a part of you, stored in your body.
To get a bit technical, blocks are disruptions in the smooth flow of energy in your energetic body. You can’t see or feel blocks, but they may accumulate to the point that you experience illness, anxiety, dis-ease or other symptoms in your physical body. They may affect your willingness to move forward in your life, or to take a risk on a new relationship. They may hold you back from experiencing a fulfilling, happy life.

IET gets the issues out of your tissues.

4. What’s the difference between Reiki and IET?
Reiki and IET are complementary. Many say learning IET is the next step after learning Reiki, but IET can be learned by those with no other energy therapy training. Reiki is useful to ease pain, accelerate healing, relieve cold and flu symptoms, reduce stress and relax, and boost the immune system, etc. IET, on the other hand, is a quicker, more direct way to remove energy blocks and reestablish flow. Think of IET as a laser targeting the release of energy blocks in the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual layers of the aura. Reiki works on blocks too, but in my experience it is a floodlight rather than a laser; it takes longer to remove blocks.

5. How is IET different from other energy healing modalities?
IET is one of dozens, perhaps hundreds of healing techniques, including traditional psychotherapy, that facilitate removal of blocks in the energetic field. Some work better for a particular person than others. We are unique individuals.
Where IET has the advantage is that there are:

    a) no needles,
    b) no pills or potions—nothing to eat or drink of dubious origin or with potential side effects,
    c) no painful recall of incidents that created the blocks in the first place, which may make you temporarily feel worse instead of better.

The third advantage is the key one for me. As a result of other types of energy healing, I’ve suffered through several healing crises, and sometimes left a session feeling worse instead of better. In one case, it took several weeks to regain my equilibrium. This can’t happen with IET. The practitioner replaces the block with its opposite emotion. For example, the practitioner patches the “hole” where a block related to “guilt” used to be with “innocence”. You leave a session usually feeling much better, but never worse than when you walked in the door. Healing old pain doesn’t have to be unpleasant.
One last difference: there’s no need to take off your clothes! You don’t even have to lie down. A practitioner can give you a treatment while you sit in a chair.

6. How effective is IET?
We build up layers of blocks over a lifetime. Like any challenge, it’s necessary to tackle the small stuff and get it out of the way before getting to the big stuff buried deep. IET will only pull out issues that you are ready to release. If you subconsciously or consciously do not want to let go of a stored emotion, IET cannot yank it out against your will, no matter how experienced the practitioner.
